The piano man aka Billy Joel and his wife Alexis have had a heck of a summer. They announced that they were expecting a baby and then they shocked everyone by getting married on the fourth of July. Now, baby officially makes three as Alexis Joel has given birth to their daughter Della Rose in the twilight hours of Wednesday. The couple has been together for six years while Alexis is thirty-three years Billy’s junior. Billy, 66 has another daughter, Alexa Ray, 29 from his marriage to model Christie Brinkley. He was also married to chef Katie Lee but they did not have any children together. This is a big deal for the musician as he is on tour as we speak so he should be lighting up the stage every night in honor of the new baby.
Though E! has cited the new little girl’s name as both Della and Delta, this is what Joe’s rep had to say: “Della Rose Joel officially entered the world on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 2:40 a.m. weighing in at 7 lbs, 6.5 oz..” So, does Billy think that at his age, he can keep up with his new uptown girl? After he and Alexis married, he opened up to Newsday about impending fatherhood: “I’ve still got the mojo. I’m excited! I’m probably going to be able to spend more time with this kid than most people are able to spend with their children because I don’t have a regular job. I could be a stay-at-home dad for as long as I can stay alive.” This is a privilege that was not given to Alexa Ray, Billy recognizes.
“I would like to have been around more because I was on the road for years and years when she was a little girl. And After Christie and I split up, she was in Colorado, so I missed out on some of her childhood, which I would like to have been there for. But now I have a chance to do it better.” And will Della be at all the show? Looks like she might be daddy’s biggest fan: “She’s going to have her dad around a lot. She’ll probably be very embarrassed by the time she graduates high school, with kids asking, ‘Is that your grandfather? No that’s my dad.’ But all kids reach that age where everything you do embarrasses them.” Congratulations and we cannot wait to see a photo of the newest Joel!
